Shining a Light on Children Born with Heart Defects Worldwide
Every year, an estimated 1.5 million children are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) — the world’s most common birth anomaly. For many, this diagnosis can be fatal without timely medical intervention. Sadly, 1 in 10 children born with CHD will not survive their first year of life, and thousands more face a lifetime of struggle due to limited access to care.
In many parts of the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries, families simply cannot access the medical expertise or equipment needed to treat these complex heart conditions. Children who could thrive with a simple operation are instead lost to preventable causes.
